Is It Acne Or Rosacea Or Both?

Redness and pimples on your face? Is it acne or rosacea? It is important to identify which disease you are plagued by because the course of treatment differs for each skin condition. Treat one like it’s the other and it could be a recipe for a worsening complexion.

Blackheads, whiteheads, and painful cysts with more oily skin on the forehead, nose, and chin is more characteristic of acne than rosacea. Classically more common in teenagers (though not always) it can appear on the skin of your face, chest, back, and shoulders across all skin types. Unlike rosacea, the redness associated with acne is more focused on the surrounding inflammatory lesions.

Rosacea, on the other hand, is characterized by episodic pimple-like breakouts without the presence of blackheads, and general redness on your cheeks, forehead, and nose. Do you flush easily? Have large pores? Visible blood vessels? Eye itching or swollen eyelids? Then you are suffering from rosacea. More typically found in fair-skinned people over the age of 30, the condition can be exacerbated by alcohol, spicy foods, sun exposure, heat, wind, and strong emotions. Overall, people with rosacea have more sensitive skin.

But could I have both? ABSOLUTELY! If so, then treatment must be tailored to the needs of both skin conditions.

At Clear Skin For You we offer treatments for acne, rosacea, and can custom-tailor a treatment plan for those who may be have both conditions.

So if you aren’t sure which disease you are affected by, let us help. It’s what we are passionate about. Schedule an appointment with us today!
